Getting here from Chișinău
Căușeni lies south-east of Chișinău. A car is the simplest way; a bus or minibus works if you would rather not drive, and the train is no longer a safe bet.

SightThe half-sunken church
An Orthodox church with paintings from 1763, built half below ground level. It stands in town, less than a kilometre from the centre.

SightHagimus Convent
A convent founded in 1997, a few kilometres from Căușeni on the road towards Bender. It has several churches and a short but well-documented history.

SightMateevici Museum, Zaim
Alexei Mateevici, the author of the poem “Limba noastră”, grew up in the village of Zaim, 6 km from Căușeni. His verses are now the national anthem of the Republic of Moldova.

SightTighina (Bender) Fortress
Tighina Fortress is a 16th-century stone monument on the Dniester. The town of Bender is under the control of the de facto authorities of the Transnistrian region, and foreign governments advise against travelling there.

SightPurcari Winery
Purcari is a village in Ștefan Vodă district, next to Căușeni, on the Dniester. A winery has worked here since 1827, with a historic cellar, a chateau and a wine that became a symbol of the country.
