How the plan works
Zaim and Hagimus are close to town, so they fit day one together with the church in the centre. Tighina and Purcari are farther out and in opposite directions, so we split them: pick one for day two.
The distances below are as the crow flies, calculated from coordinates, measured from the town centre. By road the distance will be longer.
Day 1: town, Zaim, Hagimus
Start with what is closest and end with the day's farthest point. Each place has its own page with details.
- Church of the Assumption, in town: the half-sunken church with paintings from 1763 (biserica-adormirii-causeni).
- Alexei Mateevici House-Museum, Zaim: about 6 km as the crow flies (casa-muzeu-mateevici-zaim).
- Martha and Mary Convent, Hagimus: about 10 km as the crow flies, on the opposite side of town from Zaim (manastirea-marta-si-maria-hagimus).
Day 2: Tighina or Purcari
Each is a day trip in itself, in a different direction. Choose by interest: fortress and history, or wine and an old cellar.
Tighina (Bender) is under Transnistrian control: bring your ID card or passport. Entry details are on the fortress page (cetatea-tighina-bender); read it before you leave.
- Tighina Fortress: about 22 km as the crow flies, to the north (cetatea-tighina-bender).
- Purcari Winery: about 37 km as the crow flies, to the south-east (vinaria-purcari). Check tasting times with the winery itself.
If you only have a day
Stay in the near radius: the town church, Zaim and Hagimus. These three are within about 10 km of the centre as the crow flies. Leave Tighina and Purcari for another time.
Practical tips
Zaim, Hagimus, Tighina and Purcari are outside the town, and the gaps between them are tens of kilometres. A car is the simplest way to link them in a day. The apartments have free parking, either private or by the building.
